We are seeking a Cyber Computer Scientist II/ Data Scientist with a technical background in software development and data science. This position is located in the Columbus, Ohio. Compensation will be based on qualifications and experience. A full benefits package will be provided. Relocation support is available.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Cyber Computer Scientist II/Data Scientist will support Battelle’s Cyber Innovations group. We’re trusted by elite government clients to solve some of the world’s most perplexing cyber challenges, and are always looking for new, creative ideas and approaches.

 

From research to development to operational deployment, we provide focused expertise and solutions to develop rapid prototypes and advanced technological solutions for special mission deployment. Instead of providing solutions to every cybersecurity challenge, we apply our very unique capabilities in cyber software and embedded systems, and especially at the intersection of those two domains, to custom projects from silicon though worldwide networks.

 

Battelle, and specifically the Cyber Innovations group, continuously invests in industry-leading facilities, tools, staff development and internal R&D to invent and advance innovative tools and technologies in anticipation of future cyber threats and to attract and keep the industry’s best talent.

The selected candidate will be an integral part of an accomplished team of cyber experts in both hardware and software, and will have opportunities to work closely with physicists, mathematicians, and other scientific experts from across Battelle.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Design and implementation of machine learning software solutions including regression/classification modeling, unsupervised/supervised/semi-supervised learning, and ensemble methods
  • Develop client-server model software systems
  • Work independently and effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Perform assigned tasks and activities in a timely manner and within the budgeted time or cost
  • Assist with internal and external software documentation, proposals, and reports
  • Be a life-long learner, motivated to continuous improvement of performance in technical activities through training and outside study
  • Adhere to and promote software development best practices and principles
  • Participate in Agile software development process using Scrum

 

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or related field of study
  • Two or more years of experience in Computer Science, Mathematics, Computer Engineering, or related technical area
  • Experience designing and implementing various machine learning solutions
  • Experience with high level software languages (Python preferred, or demonstrated Java, C#, C++, Go, Haskell, Rust)
  • Proven ability to work with new technologies and competing priorities
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Sole U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

 

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Experience designing and implementing novel machine learning techniques and leading machine learning software development teams
  • Experience with deep machine learning libraries, such as Tensorflow, Torch, Keras, and Caffe
  • Data mining experience
  • Experience applying machine learning techniques to noisy, uncertain and/or dynamic data sets
  • Active Secret government security clearance
