We are currently seeking a Cyber Engineer I/ Reverse Software Engineer I. This position is located in Springfield, Virginia. 

 

JOB DESCRIPTION: 

Battelle’s Cyber Innovation Unit (CIU) provides a broad range of products and services including Cyber Intelligence and Counter Intelligence, Cyber Research and Development and Fundamental Science, On-site Advisory Services, and Mission Focused tools including Embedded Systems Reverse Engineering.  Our Cyber research team provides next-generation, innovative solutions in support of the defense and commercial business community.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform computer network exploitation: embedded reverse engineering (RE), vulnerability research (VR), and application development for software and embedded systems
  • Collaborate with Cyber Innovation Unit staff working multifunctional programs integrating hardware and software reverse engineering tasks
  • Develop software tools to support RE and VR
  • Support digital forensics activities
  • Provide exceptional RE and VR on embedded system firmware and software
  • Develop specialized software/firmware modules to run on embedded hardware that communicate across native communications channels
  • Develop software/firmware modules to implement specialized functions on embedded systems
  • Able to work independently and effectively, with minimal supervision, in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Able to follow standard operating procedures and health and safety guidelines
  • Demonstrated experience disassembling and analyzing software and embedded firmware
  • Real-time operating experience; QNX, Embedded Linux, Embedded Windows

THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS MUST BE MET TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field of study, Master’s degree is a plus
  • Demonstrable experience in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science emphasizing embedded system software/firmware design, reverse engineering, vulnerability research through either coursework, internships or previous work experience, (0-2 years of experience.)
  • Familiarity with microprocessors and a variety of assembly languages
  • Able to code in C/C++/C#/Assembly
  • Sole US Citizenship & active TS/SCI clearance
  • Exceptional communication skills

THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION:

  A successful candidate will also possess come combination of the skills and capabilities listed below

  • Kernel level development/driver development for Real-time Operating systems
  • Experience with mobile wireless system vulnerability research
  • Experience using Hex Rays IDA reverse engineering tool
  • Develop plugin modules for HexRay’s IDA RE software
  • Experience debugging embedded systems and RTOSs and using embedded debugging tools
