The opportunity:
Verisign is seeking a security engineer with a demonstrated passion for security. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter with knowledge of the entire security stack from implementing systems to coding cross-platform applications in a secure manner. The candidate will be expected to administer a variety of virtualized/physical hardware and software and maintain a high level of uptime on these systems. We are an agile shop, where small teams work collaboratively to rapidly deliver solutions that matter, allowing you to work directly with and learn from our industry experts. 

The role:
As a Verisign Information Security Engineer, you will:
  • Work with one of our small engineering teams to secure the corporate Verisign infrastructure
  • Have the opportunity to manage a wide variety of security systems and infrastructure components
  • Develop cutting edge automation systems and integrate various security tools
  • Participate in daily stand-ups and collaborate cross-functionally with team members at many levels from Product Management, Engineering, Operations, Customer Service, and other organizations across the company;
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers on your team; and
  • Contribute to our broader technical community across the company


  • Knowledge of security architecture, secure code development and Secure Networking concepts
  • Novice Python, Ruby and Bash shell scripting capabilities
  • Knowledge of systems administration in a Linux and Windows Active Directory environment
  • Advanced administration and troubleshooting skills for Windows, Mac and Linux based endpoints
  • Knowledge of Kerberos and Multi-Factor Authentication
  • Knowledge of VMWare (administration and operation) and KVM virtualization
  • Knowledge of containerization systems such as Docker
  • Knowledge of Shared Storage systems and creating LUNs
  • Administration of ticketing based systems, such as Jira
  • Experience with present-day cryptography, ciphers, and algorithms
  • Knowledge of Cloud-Based security concepts
  • Knowledge of LDAP (Both OpenLDAP and Active Directory)
  • Familiarity with automation and orchestration platforms such as Ansible, Puppet, Chef, and Jenkins
  • Familiarity with network administration concepts such as: subnetting, VLAN assignments, TAPs, SPANs, and setting up network hardware
  • Vulnerability management experience consisting of: administration of the scan engines/consoles, addressing vulnerabilities, reporting on vulnerabilities
  • Experience with developing standard operating procedures and well-written documentation
  • Performing proof of concept testing in a dynamic environment
  • Knowledge of REST and SOAP based APIs
Nice to have:
  • Knowledge of administering a DNS system
  • Familiarity with network flow based systems
  • Familiarity with data loss prevention/protection systems
  • Knowledge of IDS administration concepts
  • Knowledge of SQL server (MariaDB, MySQL, Postgres, and MS-SQL) administration
  • Computer Science/Engineering degree or equivalent
  • Eight or more years of experience
  • Curious, creative, articulate, and deeply passionate about the craft of security
  • Interested in new technologies with the aptitude to pick them up quickly
  • Experience with programming languages such as Java, Scala, or C/C++ and scripting languages such as Ruby or Python
  • Proficiency with Linux/UNIX/Windows/Mac
