For more than a decade, Verizon has been refining our security monitoring expertise with nine Security Operations Centers and five Network Operations Centers around the globe. Our Research, Investigations, Solutions and Knowledge (RISK) Team has analyzed more than 190,000 incidents and 6,300 confirmed data breaches, giving us the experience and cyber intelligence to spot threats against your environment before they do damage.

We have an opening for our commercial Security Operations Center located in Ashburn, Virginia for a Senior Security Analyst. This is a Tier III resource. Security Analysts are expected to handle day-to-day tasks involving monitoring, incident analysis, and investigation of security events. They will also provide recommendations for containment and remediation serving a critical value to the MSSA service by leveraging extensive knowledge to provide context to triaged events. You will be responsible for:

  • Active real-time security monitoring
  • Security event detection, triage and threat analysis for complex and/or escalated security events
  • Provide log, reputational and packet analysis
  • Develop internal and/or external documentation, such as detailed procedures, playbooks, and operational metrics reports
  • Coordinate with Verizon Threat Library and Cyber Intel teams to improve tuning and correlation

What we’re looking for...

You’ll need to have:

  • Three or more years of experience in a security monitoring/incident handling position
  • Strong TCP/IP networking skills to perform packet and log analysis
  • Four or more years of relevant work experience
  • Experience in a security monitoring/incident handling position
  • Experience with multiple attack vectors such as Malware, Trojans, Exploit Kits, Ransomware and Phishing techniques
  • Unix/Linux command line experience
  • Linux, Perl, Python scripting
  • Experience with SIEM platforms, IDS, Proxies and Malware sandboxing devices

Even better if you have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage with customers to understand requirements
  • Clear and concise written and oral English, including the ability to create technical and procedural documentation
  • Capability to effectively multi-task, prioritize work, and handle competing interests
  • Proactive in following up on customer issues
  • SANS or other Security industry certifications such as GIAC, GSEC
