As a Director of Information Security at Zendesk you will help us to grow and shape our Information Security function to support our fast growing company. This role will provide deep technical expertise and leadership in the areas of network security and architecture, incident response, and security monitoring. You will be part of an experienced team of security professionals whose mission is to fanatically protect our Company, and our Customer’s data.   This role reports to our CISO. 

What you get to do every day:

  • Provide leadership for our Security Operations Center (SOC) and incident response functions
  • Develop and guide a strong, global team with consistent focus on the protection of our Customer and corporate data
  • Provide thought leadership for the company in the area of Security Operations, help others help themselves to protect our Customers
  • Take a critical view towards our current security tooling portfolio and alter as appropriate, while maintaining our security maturity
  • Refine our AWS, GCP, and other platform security reference architecture
  • Triage, investigate, track, and resolve security incidents
  • Work with the Operations, Product Development, and IT teams to identify and fix security vulnerabilities
  • Manage a security strategy and budget that advances our security posture for current and future threats
  • Refine security solutions using key data and a balanced risk approach
  • Build strong relationships with Product, Engineering, Operations, and IT
  • Oversee the operation of specific controls respective to our compliance obligations
  • Manage security vendors and VARs relationships
  • Execute security architecture reviews and risk assessments
  • Methodically deduce security root causes from noise
  • Be innovative

What you bring to the role:

  • BS or equivalent experience and a MINIMUM of 8+ years of experience in a security role including 4+ years in a leadership position where you manage others to meet business deliverables
  • Strong organizational skills and an entrepreneurial drive with a history of developing high-performing teams
  • A self-starter who can gain support from a variety of stakeholders
  • Experience with architecting network security solutions in data center and cloud environments
  • Solid understanding of security technologies including IDS/IPS systems, firewalls, SIEM, and vulnerability scanning tools
  • Deep understanding of network and application security threats, attack techniques, and mitigation
  • Knowledge of network routing protocols, internet networking services, and application protocols such as HTTP, SSL, SMTP
  • A customer-focused, responsive, and transparent attitude
  • Demonstrated high integrity and empathy to others
  • Proven experience managing and operating multiple security programs, projects, and initiatives
